On July 6, in the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.
Opening the meeting, Minnikhanov expressed his gratitude to Berdymukhamedov for his visit to Kazan and the attention paid to cooperation with Tatarstan under the Russian-Turkmen relations.
“Tatarstan is linked to Turkmenistan by deep historical, spiritual and cultural bonds, the proximity of languages, religions and traditions. Our long-term trade, economic and humanitarian ties are based on this. Tatarstan is your strategic partner on all issues,” Tatarstan President emphasized.
According to Rustam Minnikhanov, launching a regular flight between Kazan and Ashkhabad contributes to the development of cooperation. There is an active exchange of delegations between Tatarstan and Turkmenistan.
“There is a great potential for further development of cooperation. The leading companies of the republic such as KAMAZ Automaker, Tatneft Oil Company and IED-Holding Engineering Company are operating in Turkmenistan. There is a rich experience of Tatarstan-Turkmen cooperation in the field of culture, science and education. Today, over 2,000 students from Turkmenistan are studying at the universities of Tatarstan,” Tatarstan President said.
In his turn, Berdymukhamedov expressed gratitude to Minnikhanov for the invitation to Tatarstan. He also addressed words of gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for creating favorable conditions for the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Tatarstan. "We signed an agreement on cooperation in trade, economic, technical and cultural areas. During these years, much has been done. We will continue our cooperation in a number of areas,” Turkmenistan President said.
The mutual trade turnover between Tatarstan and Turkmenistan has significantly increased and reached 25 million US dollars in 2017. The increase amounted to 20 per cent.
Deputy Prime Minister of the republic – Tatarstan Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov, Deputy Prime Minister Leila Fazleeva, Aide to Tatarstan President Radik Gimatdinov, Director General of Tatneft Oil Company Nail Maganov and Director General of KAMAZ Automaker Sergey Kogogin took part in the meeting.
